Genga, Peter L.

New York City: Passed away peacefully, Friday, March 11, 2011, surrounded by his loving family, at age 58.

He accepted his cancer with dignity and grace. He was predeceased by his father, Peter J. Survived by his loving mother, Evelyn; brothers, Gary and Mark (Doreen); nephews, Brian Kirchhoff and Christopher Genga; Godmother, Connie Genca; uncles, Angelo and Eugene Sorbello; many cousins.

Peter was born in Rochester, and was a graduate of Geneseo State University.

He became a longtime resident of NYC for more than 30 years, and worked at Columbia University, where he made many close friends. His love and compassion for others brought him to volunteer as an English tutor for foreign students, as a Hospice volunteer, and also worked to help feed the homeless.

On his visits to Rochester, Peter always brought a special joy to family and friends. Together they celebrated life and he will be remembered always.

Friends may call MONDAY, 4-7 PM at the DIERNA FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Culver Rd. (near Norton). Peter's Funeral Mass will be celebrated TUESDAY, 10 AM at ST. CECILIA'S CHURCH. Entombment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lifetime Care Hospice or Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center.
